The other day I was photographing a product for a cosmetics company. The job was to shoot the packaged product with various props around it, for web and other advertising uses. In this particular case the packaging was a foil bag that was mostly printed with some spots of foil showing through. The printed areas created diffused reflection (undesirable) while the foil areas (mostly lettering) created direct reflection (desirable in this case since otherwise you can't read the words).
